Preliminary Data Review entails the collection and review of all available site information and information of the surrounding area. This information includes site history, land use, neighboring site activities, and local natural resources. Preliminary discussions with the regulatory agencies are also conducted.
Plan/Objectives make use of all site collected information to establish the project objectives. Once the objectives have been developed, data needs are identified and the process of analyzing data to meet the objectives is developed. The result of this step is the formation of a site conceptual model and the creation of a data collection plan.
Data Collection is the project sample collection and field data collection activity. Depending on the data needs, samples are collected of the identified media. These media can include air, surface water, sediment, soil, and groundwater. Samples are sent to an off-site laboratory for analysis. For expedited site investigations, KOTECI has used on-site laboratory capabilities for sample analysis.
Data Analysis Laboratory analytical results are validated for correctness and then resulting data are analyzed to determine if project objectives have been met or identify further data collection needs. During an expedited site investigation the laboratory analytical work and the data analysis are conducted in the field so that time and costs are reduced.
Selection of Remedial Alternatives Once the remedial investigation objectives are met, areas requiring remediation are identified and appropriate remedial alternatives are selected.
Risk and Cost-Benefit Analysis When the remedial alternatives have been identified, a risk analysis is conducted to determine how risk is mitigated for each alternative. This is followed by a cost-benefit analysis of each alternative. A remedial alternative is then selected by optimizing risk mitigation and cost.
Long-Term Maintenance is required for some projects. Long-term maintenance includes groundwater monitoring and site maintenance for extended periods of time. KOTECI has extensive experience preparing long-term maintenance plans and assisting clients by providing professional support in seeking site closure.
